I was actually looking forward to this show but lost interest because a lot of people were suspecting it to be nothing more than otaku fanservice fluff. But I actually enjoyed the first episode. Sure, it has fanservice – and it’s quite blatant (the whores living with the male lead) but it’s actually in a level that didn’t irk me. The animation, theme, and story is nothing new or something that made me go wow, but it’s the thing that appealed me to it - I think Taiyaki was right when she said that the potential for romance makes it worth it since there is zero rabu-rabu anime this season.
What I like about this anime is the male lead, Yuuto, who is one of the rare character types who can be categorized in the ever elusive “Stable Male” character. He’s just a normal high school student, who’s not really interested in women because he lives with two drunken whores who doesn’t really do anything except get drunk in the living room. One day, he accidentally finds out about the school’s idol’s, Haruka, secret life as a closet Akiba-kei (otaku). Embarrassed about the whole thing, she snubs and avoids him in school resulting to him being picked on by her “special task force” when he tried to confront her about it. When he was finally able to corner her, she told him that she will be shunned if anyone would find out about her secret, but he assured her that he had no problem with her hobby and will keep it a secret if she wanted him to. She was glad that he was the one who found out and she came to rely on him on a possibly embarrassing situation that can ruin her reputation. In the end, they start calling each other by their first names.
It’s not trying to be Genshiken, which is actually something I was expecting and was fully prepared to blast if they didn’t do it properly. Unless they do something really, really stupid, I’m going to continue watching this. I don’t understand the AMV they had in-between eyecath (Aceman) – is this part of the anime or is something from the subbers??? Whatever. (EDIT: I just learned from a forums I freuqent that it is an AMV of the sub-group...probably to advertise all the shows that they subbed. What the hell???)

Hooray! I now have three things on my summer anime – all with complicated too long names. Thankfully, all of them have shortcuts. I’m wondering how to shortcut this title…

Yeah, I like the male lead too. I mean, he doesn't seem like such an interesting character so far, but at least we know he isn't one of those dumb types!

the economy is hard, gas prices are up, and social security is a joke... of course he would have a second job just to get by...

Though, my reasons for liking it is a little different from yours and I'll probably stick with it to the end if the plot goes awry and dumps fanservice in our faces. P:
