A friend’s kid is going to have his seventh birthday in a month and she asked me if I would be able to make cookies shaped like anime characters. Thinking that I am usually able to shaped sugar cookies into anything that I want – or more specifically, as much as my cookie cutters would allow, I said that I would give it a shot but I would need to test it first. When I asked her what anime specifically, she said Naruto (*´Д`)ハァハァ But then again, he’s seven and didn’t know any better. As his godmother, I must educate this child properly and make him realize that there is anime after Naruto.
Of course, for my experiment, I didn't want to start with Naruto – one, I don’t know the show that much and two, I have always associated the show with what they are now known as, -tards. So anyway, since Aisee and I were going to have a 12-episode Soul Eater (which I placed on hold because of the irregularity of the availability of subs) marathon earlier this afternoon (Saturday), I decided to use that as my sample.
So I started out making the cookie shaped mold of the three soul technicians and their weapons. Blair's hair was going to be too much of a challenge for me since I've never done it before so I didn't do her. And when I had the cookie batter ready, the pain began. Shaping the batter was a bitch and using gloves hurts emotionally since i'm only using cut-outs and a butter knife. I used chocolate chips on the eyes because they’re already round and saved me the pain of putting colored sugar for eyes. For seven cookies, it took me two hours just playing around with the food color to come up with a suitable combination to match the characters’ characteristics.
This is the travesty that is the result.

Findings, Observations and Lessons Learned:
- Maka, Patty and Kid’s faces turned out perfect. I actually wasn't sure what the effect would be if I didn’t put sugar on the surface. Make future cookies in the same level of consistency.
- I did not put enough red to combine with the green to come up with a very dark brown (almost black) so Liz, Tsubaki and Kid’s hair turned greenish when they were baked. I will never play around with food coloring under artificial lighting ever again. Next time, I will do this during daytime.
- (*´Д`)ハァハァ What happened to Black Star??? He came out the darkest!!! Also with the inconsistent color Soul, Liz and Tsubaki ended up in. I must put down the oven rack one level down – I think he was directly under the oven lights - stupid new unfamiliar oven. But his hair is the perfect color.
- I placed too much food coloring and not enough sugar for the EAT button on Soul’s head – It seeped through the dough and the other sugars ;___;
- Maka’s hair is too high. I must pull it down in the future.
- I like how Patty’s hair turned out.
- When making Liz’s cookie, I did not compact the dough enough resulting to the bad tan line across her face after baking. Always ensure that the dough is tightly packed before shaping.
THE EXPERIMENT CAME OUT TO BE AN EPIC FAILURE -__-''' There is no way in hell I can add this into my cookie resume. It was a fun project though, but I don’t think I would be making Naruto cookies for my godson’s birthday so he’s going to have to settle for a gift certificate at Toy Kingdom. I wanna try it again though, but next time, I will try it with boiled icing. I have to find another suitable show to cookie though. Maybe something more simple next time… like Animal Yokocho or anything animal since humans are too difficult because of the detail needed.
Oh the taste??? Like any other sugar cookie. It was a shame to eat it though considering the two hours it took to shape and color them only to eat them in about five minutes. As burnt as he looks, Black Star still tasted the same as the rest.

biankita has a son??! (゚Д゚≡゚Д゚)
Oh wait....
@evildevil: we must educate children. they need guidance so they won't turn into morons
@shin: no... i don't have a kid. -_-'''
"no... i don't have a kid. -_-'''"
dont worry, one day you will have a chibi version of yourself
(゚Д゚) what a scary thought. but yes, i will have little spawns running around one of these days.
Awww, they still look pretty cute though. =/ Also, no matter what Mama says, I suck at cooking IRL... so I don't think I'd even dare to try something like this. *sniff*

Oh... how about some Animal Crossing cookies, then? XP
@taiyaki: thanks ^^
i have thought of animal crossing too... i'm trying to look through the characters as to who's good (and simple enough) to do.
OMG, they still look good enough to eat!! For your first try, they look absolutely brilliant (minus the wonky tan one), then again, I don't know the Soul Eater characters well enough to see the likeness-non-likeness
I am looking forward to these Animal Yokocho cookies! :P
ahahaha... i guess i was too spoiled by being able to get baking right at the first try no matter what recipe.
anyway, i'll make aniyoko sometime next week and i also swiped the background of your blog o^^o
haha, chibi version of yourself, awesome~
I can't bake ... cookies ....
ahahaha... if it's any consolation, i can't cook rice to save my life. even with a rice cooker. -_-
can i also do bunny suicides? the lion you did was very cute!
Those cooking Mama cookies look good enough to eat.
Oh wait, I AM supposed to eat them.
ahaha... they're now gone and eaten by ultra-gourmand cousins who only admired it for 3 seconds before eating it without another second's thought. -_-'''
I want to taste one! Bring it here at Burgundy.
"P.S. I want a Naruto cookie too. Wahahahahahaha --- retarded laugh" by retarded me
