Final (???) Round of Anime for Summer 08 Season

Zero no Tsukaima 02 ~The Elf of the Forest~

This is me when I watched this episode.

Predictable. Predictable. Predictable. Now I finally remember why I dropped season 2! If they placed in a little more twist into it before the inevitable, obvious ending, I would at least be compelled to finish the second season and continue watching this. Sadly, it didn’t. I’m sorry, but my quota for masochistic males has already been filled by Tadashi from Special A. I am gonna have to pass on this one.

Blade of the Immortal 01 ~Criminal~

Ah… the never-ending cycle of revenge: You killed my father so I’ll kill you too… You killed my hubby so I go batshit insane and try to feed you horseshit… You killed my brother so I’ll kill you and your psycho “sister”. You killed my daddy so I’ll kill you next episode…

For something that is not in my primary genre of interest, I actually like this show. Of course, I hesitated when I read “samurai” on the synopsis (since the only samurai anime I’ve watched from end to end with unwavering interest was Rurouni Kenshin), but I watched it anyway. I wasn’t expecting much when I picked this up but it turned out pretty good I still cannot believe that this is BEE TRAIN. (The rapist of Tsubasa Chronicles!!!). I have no opinion of the OP and the ED – they’re not my type, but the sequences were awesome.

Anyway, I think that I will continue to watch this anime if they set it in the era they set it on – or did it just seem like it was set a really long time ago since the setting was kinda rural.Anyway, the eyecatch they had indicated that there is a possibility for it to move to modern times – Manji is immortal after all – which will bore me since modern day samurai/ninja shows bore the heck out me and can seem awkward and cheesy. Oh well... I'll see... I probably wouldn't be blogging it though.

Ryoko’s Case Files 01

My first thought watching the OP was “Oh my God! This is like a cheesy detective show!” I mean, if they placed in words to the OP, it would be a jingle like how most 80s detective shows have – complete with silhouettes of the main character’s figure and legs. Anyway, it’s nothing spectacular… Fiesty female detective with long legs and the ability to run in 3-inch heels and her proper male assistant. The story didn’t appeal to me much, even though I love detective mystery shows, but most of them are off the Crime/Suspense channel so they’re more on the technical side of the story. I didn't like the animation that much either. I’m gonna have to pass on this.

Don't drop ZnT 3 JUST yet. If memory serves, there will be a nice little turn in the story sometime later on.

Then again, that WAS what I said about Season 2...

You know what would be great? If they combined Blade of the Immortal with Zero no Tsukaima and have Manji do away with Louise and Saito in the most gruesome way possible... Well, at least I'd watch that :P

@blissmo: i was already cringing inside when i saw the OP sequence. i just really have a hard time watching and taking animated detective shows seriously.

@c.i: :D i can't. if it was just disinterest, i'd still give it another show. but it's too boring for me.

@issa-sa: you're becoming as blood thirtsy as blissmo :D lemme guess... mmm... you don't like ZnT??? don't you??? ^^

@taiyaki: well, i needed a dose of violence ^^ so i picked up blade of the immortal. i wanted to watch ZnT because i have this habit (that i'm not starting to break little by little) that if i watch a full season, i have to see the second season.

I've seen a lot of "Oh noes Bee Train" commentary and don't understand it. Can it possibly be worse than some of the crap they air on Cartoon Network? Ed, Edd, and Eddy is my standard for low so maybe I'm just not seeing it. I haven't had the time to watch yet but I'm still looking forward to Blade of the Immortal, even if the animation is meh.

@caitlin: Actually, I didn't know it was BeeTrain until issa-sa pointed it out. ^^ But it was actually good... of course, they did it in consortium with Production IG.

My beef with BeeTrain had something to do with what they did to Tsubasa Chronicles... I'm not sure what other reason people have about it.

Uh yes... Anything is better than Ed, Edd, and Eddy. Ebichu has better production value than Ed, Edd, and Eddy... XD

Ah well, I didn't think you'd dig ZNT3 anyway.

My gripe with Beetrainwreck was the way they handled El Cazador, not to mention the fact they omitted all the fanservice!

@Shin: Actually, I enjoyed the first season of ZnT very much, but halfway through the second season, it started getting old because of the repetitive theme... And this is with no knowledge of the manga.

Anyway, at least we have Geass and Nogizaka in common... ^^

@Biankita: I'm still sitting through it despite how much it butchered the novel's awesome depiction of Saito and Louise's reunion.

Oh well, at least ZnT taught me that pain is a valuable lesson learnt in life. lol.

@c.i: LOL at "...pain is a valuable lesson learnt in life. lol."

i get that from other aspects in my life... i don't need it in my anime XD
