Antique Bakery 04

Oh f-- *Sigh* Let's just hope he washes his hands when he bakes.

Chikage has been hanging out outside in the day, daydreaming about the rain dance he and Ono did in the previous episode. (I’m not sure how much tim has passed between episodes.) Anyway, Tachibana offered him a job as errand boy inside Antique because he couldn’t shake the stalker-like feeling.

Later that night, Ono and Chikage wentout for a drink at the Lollipop where Ono had to keep reminding the proprietor Master that Chikage is straight. At around three in the morning, Chikage announced that he needed to head home because he had to make sure that his young master wasn’t having any nightmares. Ono then feigns tipsiness and asked the gullible Chikage to take him to a hotel first. Well… they made it to the bed but Chikage got out apologizing that he ws taking advantage of Ono because he was drunk – that he almost kissed him. He ran off, leaving his sunglasses behind.

Surely enough, Tachibana was awake in bed after waking up from another nightmare of the time he was kidnapped. Bewildered, Ono passed by Antique and found a frustrated Eiji. He admired his willingness to study but Eiji just told him that he’s still unable to be successful at making anything.

In another part of town, a lady told her husband, who was working late, that there was a new cake shop in town that served really good teacakes and he should pick up some.

The next day, Ono returned Chikage’s sunglasses when one of his boyfriends burst iun asking him to explain why he was at the Lollipop last night with another man. Ono assured Yacchan (the boyfriend) that it was nothing causing Chikage to run off the store crying. Tachibana punched Ono telling him that he should have apologized before for all the things he said when they were in high school and he should do the same to Ono. After a little dramatic exchange of their unsure feelings, the two reunited.

Chikage, proving to be a failure as both a patissier and/or errand boy, becomes a garcon in Antique. After charming a pair of ladies with some Jean-Pierres, a male customer came (the same guy whose wife was asking him to pass by the new cake shop for some tea cakes). He recognized Tachibana. The subs weren’t clear on it, but it seems like he’s a private detective Tachibana’s parents hired when he was kidnapped 23 years before. He apologized to Tachibana saying that he was successful in getting Tachibana back (finding him covered in blood – as hinted in Tachibana’s dream that he stabbed his abductor before making a run for it), but was failed at capturing his kidnapper. Tachibana assured him that it was alright because he’s now happily running a cake shop. When the man asked him why a cake shop, Tachibana admitted that he didn’t remember anything from the time he was kidnapped to the time he was admitted to the hospital except fot the fact that the man always brought and fed him cake everyday.

This episode’s obligatory cake service.

I actually watched this episode about two days ago, but was kinda irked with uneasiness a combination of the that rain dance from the previous episode and the hotel scene from this one. I was even contemplating dropping it because I was so carried away by all the yaoi vs. not yaoi debate before this show started that I was resolved that this is not a BL show. So convinced in fact that I forgot that this will have some elements injected into ti. But after watching it another two times, I realized that it’s actually not so bad and I learned to appreciate the episode more. Mental note: I shouldn’t be blogging this show after one viewing.

So obviously, I am not the biggest fan of the Ono and Chikage pairing. I mean, it’s OK, but will not the standing highlight of my watching the show. And I seriously wish they would stop that gag of Chikage bumping on doorframes and such. It was funny last episode and the only thing that kept it from being annoying was the fact that it was mainly a sound effect and not actually hsowing it. I think there are more ways to show his clumsiness and ineptitude other than that. I wonder if Tachibana told the police and detectives that he was given cake every day by his kidnapper and if he bought it, would they have been able to cautch the guy who did it?

This episode made me think about why I love sweet things and baking sweet things. It’s nothing earth shattering or like Tachibana’s reason, but simply because I grew up in my grandmother’s home where take-out is a treat reserved only to people who come over to visit because we used to make everything from scratch from bread every morning to pies for tea time. It’s a nice way of growing up, though at the time, I really didn’t appreciate it because every single one of my friends would always have take-out while I’m holding a Tupperware.
